Congregational
Care
Jesus said:
“Let me give you a new command: Love one another.
In the same way I loved you, you love one another.
This is how everyone will recognize that you are
my disciples –
When they see the love you have for each other.”
John 13:34-35 The Message
Celebrate
Recovery—A Christ-Centered Recovery Program
GBUMC is currently seeking volunteers interested
in helping those who want to exchange their baggage
of hurts, habits and hang-ups for God’s plan
and purposes. If you would like to be part of the
planning team for this new program, please contact
Ruth Knights at 932-3594.
Hospital
Visitation
The Pastors and Stephen Ministers visit
each weekday, members and friends of the church
who are in the Gulf Breeze hospital and the Pensacola
Hospitals. When someone has surgery, a Pastor will
visit and pray with them before the surgery begins.
Please let the Church Office know when someone is
going into the hospital (932 3594).
Prayer
Shawl Ministry
You
are invited to join a lively group
of expert and novice knitters and crocheters as
we create prayer shawls and learn more about this
innovative ministry. Completed prayer shawls
are given to those who are grieving or have special
needs so that as they wrap up in a shawl, the prayers
of the ministry will surround the recipient.
This ministry meets at the Main Campus on the first
and on the third Sunday evenings of each month in
room 12 at 5:00 p.m. Email Catherine at canuk4@bellsouth.net
for additional information.
Homebound and Nursing Home Visitation
Volunteers visit homes and nursing homes
to share Christian fellowship with those who are
no longer able to get out and worship.
Stephen Ministry
The
Stephen Ministry brings care to those in need. This
confidential Christian one to one care-giving is
a vital part of the ministry at GBUMC. Through one
to one caring relationships those who are hurting
receive the love and care they need to support them.
To contact a Stephen Minister, call the Community
Life Center Coordinator, Beth Shoemaker at 932-0240,
or the Main Campus Coordinator, Lisa Dixon at 393-6949.
Comfort Meals
The
Comfort Meals Ministry has the opportunity to reach
out in a very practical way, and touch people who
are hurting. When there is a death of a member,
or other special need, the volunteers provide a
meal for the family. Bev Patrick coordinates
this ministry - 932-7265.
Flower Delivery Ministry
GBUMC
members and friends provide flower arrangements
for our Sanctuary each Sunday. Each Monday these
flowers are taken by volunteers to GBUMC members
and friends who are homebound, in a nursing home
or in the hospital. This way the flower arrangements
continue to bring a message of God’s love
throughout the week.
Grief Care Ministry
Volunteers are attempting to reach out
to those who are hurting. We have formed a team
of volunteers for this new ministry area. After
a GBUMC member experiences the death of a loved
one, we make contact and offer support. This contact
continues for three to twelve months depending on
the type of loss suffered.
Naomi's
Table
Ministry
of Support & Encouragement for Widows
If you, a friend, or a relative has experienced the
death of a husand, either recently or many years ago,
please join us or invite your friend or relative to
join us as we meet in support for widows. Naomi's
Table meets the second Sunday of each month at 5:00
p.m. for a light supper and discussion. We endeavor
to reach out to each other with a fellowship of support,
hospitality, hope and healing.
For more information, please call Gail at 932-3594.
Hospital Aftercare Ministry
A newly formed team of volunteers will
call on those who have been hospitalized to offer
support and continuing care when someone is released
and is back at home. This transitional support
will enable us to recognize and meet the needs of
those who might not be quite ready to be on their
own following a hospital stay. This ministry
is coordinated by Charlotte Warren - 932-3362.
P.A.L.S.
(Prayer-Attitude-Laughter-Survival)
This
support group for women who have had or are experiencing
breast cancer meets the first Wednesday of each
month at the Community Life Center in room 1114
at 6:30 p.m. Childcare available. The contact
for this group is Virginia Youngman - 916-9323.
Card and Telecaring Ministry
The short duration of hospital stays makes
card sending and telecaring an effective means of
reaching out to members and friends of GBUMC. A
card is sent, and phone calls are made after hospitalization
to express care and support during their convalescence.
Phone calls are also made to members and friends
of GBUMC who are experiencing other kinds of difficulties
in their lives to show concern and support.
